You walked onto the roof where Gaara was, you were currently 11 a year younger than Gaara. you handed the boy a glass of water.
"master Gaara, you should really eat, you skipped lunch earlier and i'm worried for your health" you told him, he didn't bother to look you in the eyes, He always avoided eye contact with you for some reason. Yet you loved to look at the boy's oceanic blue eyes, no matter how many people said he was evil, you couldn't see it in him. . .
"there's no need to worry about me" he stated, his sandy voice sounded different to you, yet you couldn't put your finger on it.
"as you wish, Gaara-sama" you responded, leaving the water next to him and disappearing into the house, After a few hours you went back onto the roof to check on the Jinchuuriki boy, only to find him long gone, yet, the glass of water you left out for him, was empty. You giggled collecting the water and bringing it inside. "he's so odd" you smiled. Only Gaara would let you boss him around, if anyone else tried to tell Gaara what to-do like you did, they'd be dead. . .

You accompanied the ninja on the way to Konoha for the Chuunin exams, yet, only being a simple maid for the squad, you weren't allowed to participate in the examinations.

You paced back and forth during the preliminary of the 3rd exam as Gaara got beaten down by Rock Lee. You couldn't interferer, you were just glad the hokage allowed you to watch the examinations. When Gaara's preliminary was over, you rushed to check on him.
"Gaara-sama, are you alright, your not hurt to much are you?" you asked carefully touching the boy, Temari and Kankuro looked at you like you were an alien, no one had ever dared lay a hand on Gaara before, they were shocked you had enough guts to even graze a finger over his arm.
"i'm fine" Gaara replied bitterly,
"Master Gaara, i beg you, if your hurt, allow me to treat your wounds" you stated, he sighed knowing you wouldn't give up until he proved himself to be completely safe, or showed you his wounds. He sat down taking off his gourd and lifted his shirt revealing a well toned body (for a 12 year old) you blushed slightly, but that quickly disappeared after seeing all kinds of deep cuts and bruises. You started to wrap the wounds in bandages. "you need to be more careful Master Gaara" you said sheepishly finishing up wrapping his wounds. He didn't respond, just glared at the shinobi he almost killed, be dragged away on a stretcher to the hospital.
"master Gaara, you have a lot of wounds, are you sure you wouldn't want to go to the hospital to get healed up better?" you asked.
"_____, shut up" he demanded harshly, his words surprised you, not once has Gaara spoken to you in such a harsh manner before. You looked at the floor have finished wrapping his wounds.
"yes, master Gaara" you muttered standing up, Gaara pulled his shirt back over his body, and strapped his gourd back on, You weren't completely sure why he was acting this way, but you didn't like it. . .

After the 3rd exam, you weren't expecting Gaara to have this 'secret plan' and not inform you about it either, you had a hard time catching up to them because you weren't a ninja, yet you tried your hardest to keep up, you ran after then tried to keep pace, but they were so much quicker than you. Other shinobi had followed Gaara as well. You tried to keep going form branch to branch knowing Gaara was hurt, but you were completely out of breath. By the time you reached the battle zone, the battle was over, Gaara was falling from the tree, at a fall like that, he could hurt himself even more. You quickly caught the boy.
"Master Gaara!" you shouted the boy landed on you with a thud, making you cough up slight amounts of blood. Your arms and legs were slightly bruised and your face was scratched up from dodging other traps and low branches. "are you alright Master Gaara?" you asked.
"what are you doing here?" he asked sounding annoyed. yet you could make out a hint of worry as well.
"doing what i'm supposed to, protecting my master" you smiled.Naruto, practically crawling from loss of chakra and energy got closer to you two. Gaara tilted his head over to look at the boy, Naruto inched closer, and closer. Little by little he started to reach you two.
"huh?! no stay away!" Gaara shouted. You were shocked to see Gaara actually scared of someone for years you've seen him kill numbers or people in a heartbeat, yet, this boy was causing him fear. . .
"it's almost unbearable isn't it?" Naruto asked. his face in the ground. "the feeling of being all alone, i know that feeling i've been there, in that dark and lonely place, but now there are others, other people who mean a lot to me, i care about them than i do myself, and i won't let anyone hurt them!" he announced. "that's why i will stop you, even if i have to kill you!"
"but why, why would you do this for anyone but yourself?" Gaara asked.
"because, they rescued me, rescued me from my loneliness. they were the first to accept me for who i am, their my friends" naruto stated, "just like she is your friend" naruto said looking at you. Gaara could barely move, but for once he looked into your eyes,
"b-but she's just the help, someday, i know she'll leave, she'll go and leave me alone again" Gaara stated.
"why would i master Gaara? After all, we are friends as well aren't we? you protected me when i needed most" you smiled, Naruto smirked slightly. As he set his head down.
"hey, Naruto, Sakura's gonna be alright, this guy's chakra is all used up, the sand released her" sasuke said. Kankuro and Temari showed up.
"Temari, Kankuro, that's enough" Gaara stated, his head now resting gently on your lap. You helped him up
"alright" Kankuro responded, You helped Gaara leave the area and get back to Suna.
"kankuro, Temari, _______ i'm sorry" Gaara apologized. you 3 were shocked, you've never really heard Gaara apologize before, yet you can tell it was a true sincere apology.
"no problem" Kankuro responded. . .
*** several years later ***
After Gaara had been announced Kazekage, you took up a job as his secretary to help him with his paper work, and took the liberty of learning medical-ninjutsu to heal other wounded shinobi. You finished filing his completed paperwork and set the paperwork that needed to be completed on the desk. You smiled faintly.
"alright, all done" you cheered, Gaara entered the room wearing his normal robes and hat,
"thank you ____" he smiled, you blushed slightly.
"n-no problem master Gaara, anything else you need?" you asked. he smiled faintly. He only showed that small bits and pieces of his smile around you, which sent your heart racing. . .
"i'm fine for now" he stated, You sat in a chair in the far corner of the room, silently reading a book, you loved to read in your free time, yet, with your medical ninjutsu training, catering to master Gaara's wishes, free time was a thing of the past. "______, are you alright?" Gaara asked, you nodded.
"i'm fine master, why wouldn't i be?" you asked.
"nothing, you just seem abnormally silent is all" Gaara stated, you noticed his documents and walked over looking them over,
"i'm just bored is all, being Kazekage seems really boring, but you do make a good Kazekage" you stated
"are you calling me boring?" Gaara asked in a joking manner.
"n-no! i didn't mean it like that, it's just i---" Gaara let out a slight chuckle.
"_____don't worry, i get it" he stated, you sighed a little.
"hey, these are marriage documents, who are they for?" you asked.
"hopefully, if she says yes, they'll be for me and her" Gaara stated, you felt your heart sink slightly, having had a crush on the Kazekage since you met him. . .
"oh...who's the girl?" you asked bored looking away, Gaara seemed to turn about as crimson red as his hair, as he left a box empty, where the bride was supposed to sign. At a sudden moment, you could feel Gaara's warm lips meet yours. It was a warm feeling, his lips were surprisingly soft, the kiss was gentle yet rough, as if he were scared to break you.
"well, i was hoping it would be you" Gaara stated, you felt almost all your blood rush to your face making you blush insanely bright.
"y-y-Yea!" you stated ecstatic, you've been waiting forever to hear those words. Gaara slipped a diamond ring on your finger.
"then, this makes you mine, don't forget that" He states, you wrapped your arms around him in a tight hug.
"i could never, Master Gaara" you smiled. . .
